Cali Shaw is fast becoming one of the most celebrated songwriters and performers across the Southwest. Working with some of the most talented and diverse musicians in the region, he’s consistently pushed the americana-folk-rock envelope beyond its traditional realms. His eclectic cross-genre conception is perfectly displayed on his new album, Under The Olive Tree (released November, 2015). On it, Shaw continues his unique vision of modern acoustic music by employing instruments not normally associated with folk and making them seem perfectly at home and in proper context within the boundaries of his songs. Bolstered by rich vocal harmonies and intriguing arrangements, he creates a sound that’s at times as lush and orchestrated as it is foot-stomping and raw; all of which only serve to showcase the strength of his songwriting as the record unfolds. From a rootsy, Earthy vibe to the almost magic and ethereal, his real-life lyrics and memorable choruses perfectly echo the album’s spirit. The olive tree has long been emblematic of peace, strength, and tranquility. Inspired by the time he spent living in Greece as a young boy, where an olive grove grew behind his house, the songs on Under The Olive Tree not only echo the peaceful symbolism of the tree itself, but recall the innocence of childhood and a fascination for the world around us.

Whether solo or accompanied by a full band, Shaw’s dynamic and original performances captivate and embrace people of all generations.
